Place of their own

4 Oct, 2008 :: Køge, Denmark

The crew mess went into operation on Logos Hope this week. The mess is a dining room for people who get dirty doing their work, primarily members of the deck, engine room and project departments. Crewmembers enjoy having a comfortable space designed especially for them. Deckhand Fitzy Fitzgerald (Australia) said, “It’s nice that we can have a permanent spot that we can go to. It’s a really good thing to have the duty mess, as well, so watch keepers can go get food any time.”

Liz Bannister (Trinidad & Tobego) is one of the galley (kitchen) workers responsible for taking care of people in the mess. For her, “it’s just about giving them the best service possible, a clean environment, so that they don’t feel too separate from the rest of the crew.” The mess is also equipped with a TV screen so people eating in the mess can see announcements made in the dining room during lunch.
